We’ve received feedback from our community that 0xUniverse may at times be running slower on their laptops. After some research, we’ve discovered what could be causing that as well as a way to fix it for some of the players.
So, as you may know, there are laptops with both integrated graphics cards and more powerful ones installed at the same time. The problem (and its solution) we’ll be breaking down here mainly concerns Windows notebooks with dual Intel + Nvidia graphics cards with Nvidia Optimus. If you have a Windows laptop with Nvidia graphics you are fairly likely affected by this.
In a nutshell, the issue is that, by default, your Chrome browser tends to use the weaker graphics card even if you have a stronger one installed making you experience lags in 0xUniverse. So how to fix this?
First off, we should find out if our laptop is affected. To do that, visit WebGL features detector here. Then scroll to the end of the page, look for what comes after Unmasked Renderer.
If you see a string containing Intel, your web browser runs on the weaker integrated Intel GPU, and all WebGL content will run slower than it could. And if you see a string containing Nvidia, your notebook runs on the faster Nvidia GPU. The picture above shows that the laptop runs on the faster GPU.
Now that we’ve established that, we should set a default graphics card to be used by our browser. Follow this set of steps to do that:
- Open the Nvidia Control Panel. You can do this by right-clicking on the desktop or you can find the option within the notification area of the Taskbar.
- Select Manage 3D Settings under 3D Settings and click on the Program Settings tab. Then select the program you want to choose a graphics card for (from the drop-down list). In our case it is Chrome.
- Now click “select the preferred graphics processor” in the drop-down list and choose High-performance Nvidia processor.
This should allow your browser to be launched with the faster Nvidia GPU making your gameplay experience smoother. We hope this guide can indeed help some of the players that have been experiencing this issue.
0xGames team over and out.
